đ˘ JAMB 2025 UTME: Registrar Publicly Apologizes Over Exam Errors â What You Need to Know
Published by Elite Edu Consult | May 2025
In a surprising turn of events, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged significant irregularities in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This has stirred tension among Nigerian students and stakeholders in the education sector.
During a recent press conference held in Abuja, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, admitted to faults in the UTME results processing, prompting him to issue a heartfelt public apology. With tears in his eyes, he expressed deep regret, stating:
âWhat should have been a moment of celebration has turned sour due to unforeseen errors.â
đ What Really Happened?
Between April 19 and 22, 2025, candidates who sat for UTME in 157 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centresâmainly in Lagos and the South-Eastâexperienced undetected server glitches. The issue originated from a botched software update by a third-party service provider, which prevented some systems from properly saving and submitting candidate responses for grading.
đ Areas and Candidates Affected
JAMB confirmed that the glitch hit the following regions hardest:
Lagos State â 65 CBT Centres | Over 206,000 candidates affected
South-East States â 92 CBT Centres | Over 173,000 candidates affected
Affected states in the South-East include Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia.
đ JAMBâs Response and Next Steps
While the full cause of the error has not been disclosed, the JAMB registrar assured the public of the following:
A thorough internal investigation is underway.
Cases of result discrepancies are being individually reviewed.
Students affected will be contacted directly or updated through the official JAMB channels.
